Daily Trust Foundation Organizes Workshop on Broadcast Investigation

The Daily Trust Foundation, with support from the MacArthur Foundation, has organized a three-day training session in Sokoto for journalists from the Northwest subregion, focused on enhancing their investigative skills in broadcast journalism.

The training aimed to equip broadcast journalists with the tools to hold government officials accountable through in-depth investigations.

Speaking at the opening ceremony was Malam Mannir Dan- Ali, the former Editor-in-Chief of Media Trust Group and board member of the Daily Trust Foundation. He urged journalists to consistently hold those entrusted with public funds accountable and to improve their professional skills continually.

Malam Mannir Dan- Ali highlighted the foundation’s dedication to supporting orphans, victims of insurgency, and female medical students, many of whom have become consultants.

Sokoto State’s Commissioner for Information, Bello Sambo Danchadi, commended the foundation for its efforts, describing Daily Trust as a voice for the voiceless.

He expressed hope that the training would produce versatile journalists capable of holding public officers to account.

The Director of the Daily Trust Foundation, Dr. Theophilus Abbah, reiterated that the training was designed to enhance the role of journalists in uncovering stories of the marginalised and ensuring accountability from those in power.

The participants were drawn from the seven states of the Northwest namely Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Jigawa, and Zamfara.

There were 23 journalists drawn from the following media organizations: Daily Trust, TrustTV, Garkuwa FM, Liberty TV & Radio, VON, Royal FM, Alheri Radio/DITV, Jigawa Post, Caliphate FM, The Whistler, Rima TV, Alu FM, and Channels TV.

The facilitators for the workshop included Malam Mannir Dan-Ali, former CEO and Editor-in-Chief, Media Trust Group, Fidelis Mbah, Aljazeera, Nigeria Office, Malam Al-Mustapha Abdullahi Jadadi, Managing Director, Sky Ocean Media Services, Sokoto, and Mr. Habib Oladapo, Civic Media Lab, Lagos.
